About Dr. Shawn McCarty
Dr. Shawn McCarty grew up in the Louisville area and holds B.A., M.S. and M.D. degrees from the University of Louisville. He was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha (the national medical honor society in 1997). He completed his residency at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis and is board certified in Emergency Medicine. Dr. McCarty is Board Certified in Obesity Medicine.
Dr. McCarty has practiced emergency medicine for 16 years in civilian and military hospitals. In this role, he has cared for over 40,000 patients and has treated almost every conceivable disease known to humankind. Dr. McCarty’s combination of education and patient care experience allows him to be versed in all areas of medicine, and be comfortable caring for patients of all ages.
As an avid participant in fitness and wellness activities, Dr. McCarty has run 25 marathons in 18 different states and completed 3 Ironman triathlons. Dr. McCarty’s wife Kim is a certified fitness instructor and teaches at the Northeast Family YMCA. Together they have 6 children between the ages of 6 and 21.
